Community Patron Loan Policies

What items can I check out from the library?

  • Books from the main collection on the fourth floor
  • Books from the children's collection
  • Best sellers and new books
  • Audio books
  • Some government documents (some are non-circulating)
  • CDs and DVDs
  • Items from other libraries through Kent Library's Interlibrary Loan Service, limited to books and articles. You can request up to 8 per year.

How many items can I have checked out at one time?

  • Community patrons may have 10 items checked out at one time.
    • Three of those 10 items can be audio books, CDs, and DVDs.

How long can I keep checked out items?

  • Community patrons may keep books from the main collection for 4 weeks, and may renew them twice.
  • Books from the children’s collection, best sellers, government documents, or audio books may be kept for 4 weeks, and may be renewed twice.
  • CDs and DVDs may be kept for 2 weeks, and may be renewed twice.
  • Due dates for items from other libraries are determined by the lending library.

How do I renew my materials?

What happens if I return the items late?

  • Please visit our Fines and Fees Policy for details for late or unreturned items. If you have questions about fees for billed, overdue, lost or damaged library materials, please contact circulationdesk@semo.edu or call 573.651.2232.

How do I access online resources (ebooks, streaming video, online databases)?

  • Online resources can be accessed ON CAMPUS through the library website.
    • ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​In the library, there are three public computers on the third floor.
    • University guests can access the campus wifi in most university buildings. Please see "Guest Wireless Access" for more information
