Central Intelligence Agency
The mission of the CIA is to "leverage the power of information" to keep the United States safe. The CIA collects and analyzes foreign intelligence and conducts covert action. U.S. policymakers, including the President of the United States, make decisions based on information provided by the CIA.
Cold War and Internal Security Collection (CWIS)
The CWIS Collection includes over 2,200 volumes of congressional hearings, committee prints, committee reports, and other publications, from the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC), its successor the House Committee on Internal Security (HCIS), the Senate’s Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations (SPSI), the Senate Internal Security Subcommittee (SISS), and other congressional and executive bodies, all covering the years 1918-1977. The contents of the collection cover congressional investigations of organizations deemed “subversive” or “un-American”, primarily the Communist Party USA and its allies. Other subjects of investigation include the New Left, the Ku Klux Klan, the Black Panthers, 1930s and 40s pro-Nazi organizations, and even the World War II internment of Japanese-Americans. These items serve as valuable primary sources on topics such as American political culture during the Depression, World War II and the Cold War; the history of American Communism and the other investigated movements; the fate of civil liberties during a period of perceived external threat; and the evolution of attitudes towards political movements deemed extreme or “un-American”.
Federal Bureau of Investigation
The mission of the FBI is to protect and defend against intelligence threats, uphold and enforce criminal laws, and provide criminal justice services.
Homeland Security Digital Library
The Homeland Security Digital Library (HSDL) is the nation’s premier collection of documents related to homeland security policy, strategy, and organizational management. The HSDL is part of the Naval Postgraduate School Center for Homeland Defense and Security and is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s National Preparedness Directorate, FEMA.
National Security Agency
The National Security Agency/Central Security Service (NSA/CSS) leads the U.S. Government in cryptology that encompasses both signals intelligence (SIGINT) insights and cybersecurity products and services and enables computer network operations to gain a decisive advantage for the nation and our allies. Throughout the site, NSA/CSS is referred to collectively as NSA.

The Department of Homeland Security has a vital mission: to secure the nation from threats. This requires the hard work of more than 240,000 employees in jobs that range from aviation and border security to emergency response, from cybersecurity analyst to chemical facility inspector. The duties are wide-ranging and the goal is clear - to keep America safe.
