UI100 - University Survival 101 - Patton: Articles & Multimedia

Getting started

Use Library Subscription Databases to identify and find articles in magazines and newspapers and in journals.  You can also use them to find  images, films, music, and much more.  Kent Library has both general databases and subject specific databases.

To access library subscription databases from off-campus, you must be a current Southeast student and login with your S-zero number.  This number can be found in the student portal (http://portal.semo.edu) or on your Redhawks card.

Tips for using most databases

  • Enter each of your search concepts in a separate search box.
  • Search using keywords, rather than using sentences or long phrases.
  • Click Full Text to search only for complete articles.
  • Articles can be printed, emailed, and saved.
  • Get the full text of an article by clicking the PDF or HTML link.

Sampling of databases for finding articles & films

General databases cover many fields and disciplines.

Subject databases cover specific fields or disciplines or topics.

Articles are a good way to learn about the current state of your career choice and the people who work in that career.  Articles are also a great source for learning about the soft skills you will need to be successful.

A complete list of Kent Library databases is available under the Articles & Databases link on the library website.
