MOBIUS Information

This LibGuide provides a list of frequently asked questions and information for MOBIUS users, as well as instructions on how to search and request items through the MOBIUS catalog.

MOBIUS Info & FAQ

  1. What is MOBIUS? (http://searchmobius.org)

MOBIUS is a partnership between approximately 80 libraries in the states of Missouri, Iowa, Arkansas, and Texas. The partnership allows libraries to share materials with each other.

  1. Does it cost anything to use MOBIUS?

MOBIUS is a free service to current students, faculty, and staff of Southeast Missouri State University.

  1. What can I request through MOBIUS?

Physical books and audio/visual materials may be borrowed, with each library determining which items in their collections may be borrowed through MOBIUS.

  1. How do I request an item through the MOBIUS catalog?

Please see the instructions in this LibGuide.

  1. How long will it take to receive my item?

Items generally take 5-10 business days to arrive at Kent Library. However, this is not a guarantee. It is recommended that you place your request 10-15 days before the item will be needed.

  1. How will I know when my item has arrived?

Once your item arrives at Kent Library, you will receive an email at your Southeast email address letting you know it is ready.

  1. How do I pick up my item?

Please bring your Southeast ID with you to the circulation desk so the item can be checked out on your account. A driver’s license will also suffice, but photo identification must be presented to pick up the item.

  1. Can I have a friend or family member pick up my item for me?

Items must be picked up by the person who requested the item. We cannot allow someone else to pick up your item for you.

  1. What if I cannot pick up my item before it is scheduled to be sent back to its home library?

Once items arrive at Kent Library, we will hold them for two weeks. If an item is not picked up after two weeks, it will be sent back to its home library. Under extenuating circumstances, such as illness or injury preventing you from coming to campus or unexpectedly being out of town for an extended period of time, you can call us and ask if we can hold the book for you beyond the two weeks. If the extension would be more than an additional three days, the item will need to be sent back and requested again by you.

  1. What if I do not take classes on the main campus?

If you live at the River Campus, take classes at one of the regional campuses, or are an online only student, arrangements will be made to get your items sent to you. Information on how to choose one of these options when placing your request is included in the instructions found in this LibGuide.

  1. When will my item be due?

Books will have a 40-day checkout length. A/V materials will vary, depending on the lending library’s policies, but should be a minimum of 10 days.

  1. Can I renew my item?

Renewals for MOBIUS materials are currently not available.

  1. What if I need my item for longer than the due date?

If you will need your item past the due date, you should request a different copy of the item, as we currently cannot renew items.

  1. How do I return my item?

MOBIUS items may be returned in the following ways:

  • By bringing the item to one of our desks on the main floor of Kent Library and handing it to a library employee or placing it in the drop box
  • By returning it in one of our outside drop boxes next to the main and parking lot entrances
  • By returning it in one of our drop boxes located between Kent Library and the University Center
  • By returning the item to the Arts Resource Center at the River Campus
  • By mailing it to us if you are unable to travel to campus
  1. What if I damage or lose my item?

If an item is damaged or lost, the lending library will determine what the cost of the fine will be. The Resource Sharing Library Associate will work with the lending library to obtain an invoice. The charge will then be placed on the student, faculty, or staff’s university account. This process can take several weeks and the Resource Sharing Library Associate would be in contact with you during this time to keep you updated on the process.

  1. Is there a limit on how many items I can request through MOBIUS?

Please see our policy pages links above for more information about the total number of items that can be checked out at one time.

  1. What if MOBIUS does not have the item I need?

If MOBIUS does not have what you need, a request can be made through our traditional ILL services. Please go to the following link for more information. Interlibrary Loan | Kent Library
