beyond Kent Library

If you cant find the book or other item you're looking for in Kent Library, there are some other options.  The trade off with these is time. Books from other places arrive 2 days to 2 weeks. On the plus side, you can borrow almost any book that is out there somewhere.  Options include:

  • MOBIUS - a cooperative sharing network of libraries in Missouri and nearby states.  You can search MOBIUS from within Kent Library - so if you don't find what you need, look for a 'Search MOBIUS' button.   Any book that Kent Library doesn't own can be requested from MOBIUS
  • Worldcat - similar to MOBIUS, but spanning the entire U.S.
  • hint: Kent library won't borrow books from elsewhere that are already here, so a recommended path to take in seeking a book is
    • search Kent Library Catalog > then check MOBIUS > then check WorldCat

More book tools

Other tools for finding books include:

  • Internet Archive -   This is good place to find public domain (i.e. free)  books and a wide variety of other types of sources including audio, video, images and more.  An example of unique content is Librivox, a collection of free audiobooks.
  • Google books - a vast archive of scanned books both in and out of copyright.
    • for most of the copyrighted material, full text of the book will not be available.
    • however, it lets you search inside books, to find books  that contain specific words or phrases.
      • So for example, if you remember reading a story about Nazis building robot dinosaurs to conquer the earth, but can't remember the title, this resource may help you dig up the book.
