The Department of Mass Media’s second annual See Me Series will focus on Ken Burns’ 2012 documentary, “The Central Park Five.”

Central Park Five (Kanopy) The documentary recounts how five teenagers of color were wrongfully imprisoned for a rape that occurred in Central Park in 1989. The entire system—the police, the attorneys, journalists, and the courts—let them down. After someone else confessed to the crime, they were finally exonerated by DNA evidence and released. But not until after their lives had been altered forever.

Panel Discussion

The Department of Mass Media will sponsor a panel discussion of the film at 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 19 in Rose Theater (Grauel 225). The panel will not show the documentary. Please view the film prior to coming.

About the See Me Series

The See Me Series was created last year as one way for the department to emphasize identity and representation on campus, in the community, and as part of American culture.

The Department of Mass Media, housed in the Holland College of Arts and Media, is asking the entire campus to consider making films in the See Me Series and themes a part of their classes and encourage participation. As an accredited department, Mass Media prioritizes diversity and inclusion as one of its top priorities.
