The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) organizes businesses into a set list of industries for the purpose of publishing statistical data about the U.S. economy. The most updates codes are the 2017 NAICS codes, and they update around every 5 years.
Many company and industry information sources will organize their information by NAICS codes, allowing you to connect companies to their industries and to other companies in that industry. Be warned that different sources may apply NAICS codes differently, especially for companies that operate in multiple industries.
