The Federal Reserve System is responsible for the monetary policy of the United States.  It is directly involved in developing, articulating, tracking, and managing the economy through manipulation of the money supply.  To facilitate these activities, it collects and tracks a wide variety of economic data which it compiles into searchable databases.
