Recommended databases

In general, library subscription databases contain both citations for articles and the full text of articles. Use them to find articles in magazines, journals, and newspapers.  A growing number of databases provide access to multimedia - images, films, and sound.

General databases cover many fields and disciplines.  They primarily contain magazine, scholarly journals, professional journals, and newspaper.

Subject databases
primarily cover scholarly journals for one or more fields or disciplines.  Use these to help gather in-depth research articles.

What is a scholarly source?

  • What makes a scholarly source scholarly is that it is -
    • written for a scholarly audience,
    • reviewed by experts (peer reviewed) in that particular field of study,
    • written by an expert qualified to write about the topic.
