Reel #
Insert the number of the Census you are looking for in the blank provided. Request by call number, including Census number and reel number, at the Periodicals Desk
Beginning with the 12th Census (1900), cataloging in the Library's online catalog includes film reel numbers for the individual counties. For the 12th, 13th, and 14th Censuses, that information is provided in the contents note. Beginning with the 15th Census (1930), film reel numbers are provided in a tabular form in the Location/Call Number portion of the display. To locate the census materials, type in a keyword search identifying the desired census. The census designations are as follows:
1900 = 12th Census
1910 = 13th Census
1920 = 14th Census
1930 = 15th Census
1940 = 16th Census
and so on.
Remember that, in order to protect the privacy of individual respondents and their families, the enumerated data is not released until 72 years after the census was taken. Thus the 17th Census (1950) will be available beginning in 2022; the 18th Census (1960) in 2032, the 19th Census (1970) in 2042, etc.
